India opener Shubman Gill could miss the next Test against England owing to a leg injury. Gill will remain with the squad as he is expected to be fit for some Tests in the five-match series.
Gill looked in good nick during the World Test Championship Final against New Zealand and was looking to cash in on his form but the injury will disrupt the team combination.
The likely replacements could be Mayank Agarwal or KL Rahul. Both teams will now head to Durham for a training camp followed by intra-squad matches.
The first Test will kick off on August 4. There aren't many details available about the extent and nature of the leg injury as the Indian squad is on a three-week breather before they get together in Durham in mid of July.
“There is a chance that Shubman could be ruled out of the whole Test tour even though it is still a month away. The injury is serious is what we have come to know,” a senior BCCI official told PTI
Physio Nitin Patel and strength and conditioning coach Sohum Desai will work with the batsman in the recovery process.
Gill has represented India in eight Tests thus far, amassed 414 runs at an average of 31.84. He scored 28 in the first innings of the WTC Final.
