Waqar Younis to miss Zimbabwe series for wife's operation in Australia
Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis will not be with the team during the upcoming series against Zimbabwe as he will fly out to Australia to be with his wife for her surgery.
His spouse's operation is due to take place after the month of Ramazan but Waqar had to leave immediately because of the strict quarantine measures in Australia. All persons arriving in the country have to undergo a mandatory 14-day isolation period, which is why Waqar is heading there early to spend time with his family before the surgery upon completion of the quarantine.
Waqar will rejoin the team back in Pakistan once the Zimbabwe tour will have concluded. In December 2020, the 49-year-old was granted leave by the PCB midway through the New Zealand tour, to link up with his family who he had not met for almost six months. He later joined the national side on January 17 to prepare for the home Test series against South Africa.
Pakistan's Zimbabwe assignment will kick off with the T20I clashes starting April 21 before the action shifts to the Test arena, scheduled to commence on April 29. All matches will be held in Harare behind closed doors.
